Engine problems/replacement options
I have an 95 850 wagon- 5 speed
the engine is coming to it's end 260xxx miles- the lifters are going and its know knocking.
mechanic says for as much as i would spend fixing the engine, i should look into just replacing the engine.
i then thought, well if i put in a new engine, is there any way i could put in something that would give me more power?
obviously a volvo wagon is a volvo wagon, but i thought it was worth the research.
any and all thoughts/suggestions/recommendations are welcome

Stick a turbo engine in. You'll need the underhood wiring harness, the radiator, intercooler, and intercooler plumbing from the donor car, as well as the turbo, downpipe, and computer. Yes, it's more work, but honestly, it's the only way to get more power out of one of these. And... it's already a manual! Factory clutch and flywheel will work on the replacement engine.
