Default Transmission replacement options?

2002 S60T 2.4, auto, 98K miles. No transmission problems to date. I did the three drain/fill with Mobil fluid a couple of months ago and that worked well.

However...

Automatic transmission problems seem to be a recurring theme here. If I do start having problems, I would like to know the best options are. Can you buy brand new transmissions for these cars or do you have to install rebuilt? If rebuilt is the option, can you order a rebuilt one or is it best to take it to a shop? I'd prefer to swap it out myself so if the worse case scenario happens it would be nice to have a place to start. The car itself is in beautiful shape and would keep it if the trans decided to crap out. Finally, who would be the best retailer to buy from (new or rebuilt) and what would be the expected cost?

Thanks!!!

Default RE: Transmission replacement options?

You should be able to buy either one from the Dealer. But they ask for a High core charge till you return the old one.
