engine swap

I've got a 95 Chev 454 in an 83 Madza RX-7 if that helps. I think you can pretty much put anything into anything if you have the time, money and a good welder.
As for a Volvo 850. If you're talking more of a direct bolt in it should be. You should be able to swap them. I'd wait for, or look for someone who has actually done one though to get the full story but the engines would be the same but I think there might be subtle differences in some of the transmission connections, like speedo. If you're going from turbo to NA or NA to turbo that would be a whole different story and you'd want to swap out wiring harnesses and a number of items in the exhaust, cooling and management system.
If you can be a little more specific in your question and your car where we can get a grip on your abilities you can get a better answer.
The way it stands now it's kind of like someone asking if they can add a turbo and you have no idea if they think it's just bolting on a "turbo" or if they understand all the other changes and parts that need to be done also.
