My son has a 1997 2.4 non air pump and non turbo. He has bought a 2.4 with a air pump motor to replace the old one. Can he do away or plug the air pump. He has changed the motor but it seems its not getting any fire but turns over. Does anyone know what or how to get this motor running. We connected everything back like the old motor but just not wanting to start. Any help is greatful.

 

Have you checked all the basics first?
Check for spark,fuel, and injector pulse.
Did the plug on the cam sensor break during the swap?
You can plug off the air pump ports and be fine.

 

Do you have spark coming out of the coil, do you have spark at the plug ??
Have you tried to give it a shot of starting fluid to see if you can get it to fire?

 

We checked and saw it getting fuel at the connection at the rail. Haven't checked anything else as of yet.
