Default Erratic Idle

Hi everyone,

I noticed on the first warm day that my 96 NA 850 is surging. It's gotten worse, even though it was fine all winter. The ignition is all new, I cleaned the IAC, the EGR valve and used MAF cleaner on the MAF which was newly installed by the last owner. I just fixed a broken vac line and hoped that would solve it..

I don't have any codes to go by at this point (cleared them yesterday after cleaning the EGR) but it's harly drivable as it stands. I just test drove it and the trans has no idea what gear it wants and downshifts randomly. It wants to stall at every stop sign and light. I really wanted to drive around and see if any codes come back.

The only other thing I noticed was a small exhaust leak (after the cat) right in the middle of the car where there's a clamp that looks loose. I wasn't sure if that reduces back pressure enough to cause such a problem with the idle though..

I'm tempted to take it to the muffler shop but I want to drive it sparingly, until
I can figure this out for sure. I'm also temped to replace the IAC and MAF, but I can't really afford to just throw parts at it right now..

Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you had a MAF code, that will likely come back. Make sure you do NOT have any intake leaks going to the throttle body.
