214 we ever to come to canada. i believe that they may have even been avaliable before 97 in europe also possibly in automatic.

 

i didn't find your video until after i posted my first one, every time i typed "850 AWD" the only thing that came up was the t5-r it was only after i watched my video that yourtube suggested i watch yours, the info i stated in the video is a mix of several sources and i'm not claiming to know everything, i just got these cars

hey so you dropped the sub frame and gas tank on your 850 awd to access the fuel sending unit. was this difficult? what tools did it require? I have a bum sending unit and a think the seal around it is gone as well. my fuel gauge doesn't work and my specialist tells me it's the sending unit.

anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I have just purchased an Olive Green 1998 V70 AWD turbo with a manual transmission. I has a Canadian VIN number, looks all original and it is in good working order.

IS this one really a rare model? I just bought it as a winter beater.

I am currently going through the car, fixing some minor issues and preforming some major services.

Not sure if I want to share what I paid, but it was not too much. ( as compared to the slush box versions )

I run an advanced driving school based in Whistler, British Columbia. The 850 AWD is one of my favourite cars, especially with new Bilsteins/Nivomats and IPD anti-roll bars. I'll be upgrading to the 16T turbo. Otherwise, I like the stock appearance, only those in the know recognise it as something special.

I did a few laps at Portland International Raceway with the car late this summer, and got quite a few favourable comments. Search Alan Sidorov Volvo 850 on YouTube- we didn't have a good mike, but fun video. I'll have to do more voice-over to make it into a decent training clip for advanced driving students.

I first decided to buy this car some years ago, when racing a Volvo in the Road & Track Manufacturer's Challenge. Then Volvo NA Chairman Bill Hoover told me the first AWD car would be really good. I found mine in 2005 at a Vancouver dealership. Immaculate, full service records, and 80,000 kms.

Its a keeper, worth maintaining very carefully.

Can someone please tell me what kind of rear brake pads and rotors the AWD uses? Same as the 1998 V70 by chance? I ordered pads+rotors all the way around for my car from iPd, but only the front brakes fit, the rears aren't even close.

 

ipd does not have an 850 AWD option, so you have to select v70AWD..

yep, the pads are completely different for FWD..

 

This kit came up in another thread recently, and being as my passenger ball joint is threatening mutiny I thought I would do the whole front end:

From reading this thread I understand that the rear shocks won't work on an AWD, but will the front end components? I tried messaging the company but they aren't good at responding, and I work during their business hours so I can't call.

 

The front suspension is stock 1995-1997 850. Prior to that I believe things like ball joints could be changed separately. I have Bilsteins up front, they do raise the nose a bit so if back of car is sagging, new Nivomats may be in order.

Apparently there are replacement rear springs available in Europe which allow use of a conventional high quality damper such as Bilstein.

At Sidorov Advanced Driver Training we use a 1995 front wheel drive 850 for our various skid control training devices, the main advantage being it is super-reliable, easy to maintain, and doesn't have electronic driver aids beyond ABS and TRACS. The 1997 850 AWD gets used as a demo car for other exercises, and seems to appreciate a good workout.

 

yes, the springs werent only avalable in europe.. i just got a pair and will do a write up soon enough about that stuff..

the FWD parts will work in the FRONT of the AWD without problem.

 

Please post the rear spring upgrade information and results as soon as possible. I've been looking for the 850 AWD equivalent of the overload springs I used on a 245 Turbo.

Just put wagon springs (advertised as Scan-Tech HD) on the 1995 850 sedan, which makes it more stable when used with our skid control training systems.
