I would try to find a used one to buy. Not sure if anyone replaces the flex joints anymore.

The flex joints are available separately at any auto parts store although they may have to order the specific size in. Depends on your ability to pull it out yourself and find a shop to do the welding for you compared to just having a shop replace the whole pipe. Going aftermarket would surely be less expensive.
The question would be if they could find one short enough.

Default Exhaust

There are a number of vendors that sell after market down pipe to muffler outfits for just over $200 usually arrive in a week. Believe me I just spent a day trying to weld up an exhaust system on an old Subrau for my nieghboor and it turned into a six hour ordeal.

If you remove that curvy down pipe and cut out the bad flex joint you would have to be a hella of welder to get everything back together again within tolerences. Besides that old rusty pipe most likely is egg shell thin and would evaporate when you touched it with a torch.

PS how bad is it leaking? All flex joints leak a little even new ones. Because they are a series interlocking loops under the woven metal they can't seal as tight as a solid piece.

I found the flex joint on eEuroparts for $60 and welded it w/ flux core wire feed welder. Simply grind the old joint off, get the orientation correct for the new one, and weld away.

Use it as an excuse to buy a welder!

Hi
I would like to say thanks to those that replied to my posting. As to how bad the blow is, its at its worst at a cold start and gets less as you drive along, the exhaust is a bit louder, but aparently thats down to the fact that I have an after market 'cat', and above 3,000 revs sound really good !

Thanks all
Jeff.
