Default Factory Speaker Upgrade

Hello,
I am considering upgrading the system in my 850. I already posted this in the Audio/Video section and got nothing. The only reason I want to do this is because most of my speakers are not working. I am considering getting all Infinity Reference series, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/ideas? Thanks

You could put your fingers to work and do a Google search to see what sizes other people have fitted to the different enclosures.

I already have actually. I know what sizes I need, just looking to see if anyone had suggestions about different brands or advice

I went with aftermarket boxes for bigger speakers so I'm no help Have a separate A46XP for left and right and the big amp is bridged and runs two of the sub boxes.

Would be interested in hearing about what you end up going with and how you get them in. Pictures would be great.

All my stuff was from Checker Auto Parts clearance so it's cheesy but there's enough of it that it sounds good to me.

That DVD head unit in my other post is my dream component. Would like to have something that has GPS incorporated in it so I don't have to use a separate unit. The DVD part I don't really see myself ever using.

I put an 8" in each back door, a 12" in the spare tire well, 5 1/2" in the front doors, and 3/4" in the factory speaker location on the dash.

I had a 97 850 R that I put Boston Accoutsic speakers in the front because the factory speakers were blown. I liked the sound of the factory speakers in my 94 Turbo and my 95 T5R better than the BA's. Have always had factory head units though in my Volvos.

Basically I know if I start messing with it, I will tie up 1,000's of dollars into getting a really good sounding system and it won't be worth the money compared to the sound of the factory unit. Now my 98 V70 GLT was a different story. The factory unit sounded like crap, but I ended up selling the car.

Any photos of how you fitted the 8" into the doors ?

Really good article on everything you need to know for replacements.

Kiss: i wish i still had the pics of the install, but they dissappeared. Essentially what we (a buddy of mine is an installer by trade) did was build the bottom part of the door panel (where factory speaker is) out about 2 1/2 inches or so with fiberglass, with an opening for the speaker. It's actually a 7" speaker, but Dynaudio always listed it as an 8" for some reason, but anyway, once we got the panels built out I had another friend of mine cover it in some decent looking black vinyl fabric. End result was not bad, and the sound is great.
