Default FCP Groton Control Arms

Does anybody know anything about the aftermarket Control Arms that FCP Groton sells? Any idea what of the Brand?

I have a 97 Volvo 850 that will be a first car for my wife and I'm debating if it's worth paying for the OEM control arms or it the aftermarket will work fine for now. I have put only Volvo OEM parts for everything else but I'm getting short on cash.

With the promotion they have this week ("Cyberweek"), I can get everything I need to get her running again for just over $100. If I buy the OEM control arms then it will push it up to the $250-$300 range.

Anybody have experience with these?

I just put scan tech lower control arms on my 850. No idea how well they'll do but so far so good...I rolled the dice come on lucky 7.

They are also offering a lifetime warranty on them. Aftermarket at FCP is code for Scan Tech in most cases since every retailer has figured out that the name Scan Tech is toxic.

After you burn up a Saturday to change them out every 6 months it will get tedious and you will buy some OEMs and be done with it. Have you checked with Darrell Waltrip Volvo for the OEM parts? I'm not sure about control arms but they are often about the same price as aftermarket for Blue Box Volvo parts. (800) 689-0021 - Ask for Jamie or Don.

If you need to buy time they will work for a little while but the long term economics of using junk parts really doesn't make sense.

FCP's aftermarket control arms are URO parts. I've not had too much trouble with anything URO makes, though I haven't tried those control arms yet... I'll eventually get a set for my own car to see how they hold up, before I'll consider putting them on my (budget minded) customers' cars.

And FCP is usually pretty good about listing the manufacturer on their site, even when it is Scan- Tech.

Carrots is correct, the control arms are URO. I have them on my 850 and after 5K, they are still very good. The nice thing now that helps put your mind at ease is that they come with a lifetime warranty if you have a shop install them or pay 10% for the warranty and install them yourself.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try them out and if they make it till next year or my wife doesn't kill the poor car then I'll convert them to OEM's if I need to.

Thanks for the input! That helps a lot!!!

Uro makes some good parts. The only part I have had from them was a spring seat, which was recalled but I got that taken care of.
