Default A Few different issues

I picked up a 1996 volvo 854R this past spring and are now getting around to fixing the usual problems. One being a broken odometer, I have ordered the kit from IPD and just wanted to know if there is anyway to find out the actual mileage ? Another problem is the car wont shift with out pressing the shift interlock button any ideas ? Also when the car is warming up in the morning it has a strange exhaust smell does not smell like coolant which was flushed recently and the whole PCV system was replaced. Last but not least I don't think I am getting full boost I have an aftermarket boost gauge kit from IPD and it only reads about 7-8 psi and between shifts it spikes around 10 psi. The ABS/TRACS lights are on also. The brake light is also on.

I have done the following items since I purchased the car it has 134,000 miles. Complete PCV replacement, Coolant Flush, Fuel Filter, Mini-Tune Up, Cold Air Intake Kit and MSD Coil Upgrade and silicone hoses all from IPD. Sorry for such a long post but I figured I would put it all out there to start with. Don't really know much about the prior history.

Thanks in Advance for any help.

The only way to find out actual milage is if the car has the OBD-I connection under the hood. I think Volvo stopped installing that in '95.

What does the exhaust smell like? Maybe it has an odor because it's running rich when cold.

You can check around as to what boost should be, I think it is set to around 12 from the factory. Some people set it higher to get more but wait for the preformance guys to let you know more about that. You will only get good boost when you have S selected on your transmission settings and have it floored.

As for the shifter, it's likely the micro-switch that has gone bad. You can search for a fix for it and check out my fix when my 960 was doing the same thing.

Smell like rotten eggs? If so, probably catalytic converter. Problem with ABS light is probably you need a rebuilt ABS Control Module, which is a very common problem. A guy name Victor Rocha will rebuild it for you at a reasonable price. He's done two for me. Here is his website: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/...vo_V70_ABS.htm

Default A Few Questions

This might sound kind of strange, but the exhaust does have a rotten egg smell and smells like burning form-a-gasket/permatex if anyone knows what that smells like. I do run the car on Sport mode and with the car floored it will only hit 7-8 psi if I am lucky. I will be repairing the microswitch, I heard you can bypass the switch ? I will definately be doing the ABS repair through the website link.
