A few questions.
Hello, Im looking at buying a 94 850 turbo sedan. The person "de-badged" it, I really dont know why... anyhow does anyone know where i can get the proper emblems? and also what radio would go in this car because i want to put an original one back in instead of the aftermarket. thanks
All radios from 850's, S90's, 960's, S/V70's prior to 2001. Post '95 models have cd & cassette. Hopefully you wire harness hasn't been destroyed.
You can get the badges from the stealer, junk yard, and maybe others from this site. I have a few you can have.

and another completely different topic... do you think a 94 turbo sedan with a bad head gasket is worth $700? the body is probably 4/5 but the interior is pretty much perfect minus the radio
Whats wrong with a nice aftermarket radio ??

Maybe. There's so much that goes into figuring out a vehicles value it's hard to say. It comes down to, is it worth it to you

there is nothing wrong with an aftermarket radio but this one was not installed well. there is no dash kit so there is just a hole below the head unit. and i think i will get the car because i really want one so ill probably take the risk
Not to me. 850 Always have other issues. First the head gasket. Then what if the motor is locked because it sat to long with coolant/water in the block. I know first hand that the head gasket could cost over $1,000 to do right if you do it yourself. A 19 year old car is worth NOTHING not running. So, whatever a junk yard would pay of it is what it's worth.
Oh, and if the car was de-badged, it is likely ragged out from some young hot shot trying to drag race with it every day.

Call me silly but I think you should FOCUS on the engine needing repair before you ever worry about putting in a radio or sourcing the badges. You should be doing some research into how much doing a head gasket will cost and where you can get one and if you have or know some who has the talent and tools to accomplish the job. THEN add $700 to that and figure out if it's worth it.

As for the rest, I would consider cost of the head gasket repair + cost of incidentals during the repair + cost of the vehicle itself. As a service writer I would generally tell people to factor in a cushion of ~25% on top of the basic repair estimate on a job like a head gasket. Usually it's less than that, but on a 19 year old vehicle with a questionable history there are bound to be many, many "while we're there" components that look dodgy/broken/worn out/etc and need to be replaced. You don't know what kind of shape the head/valves are in until you pull it off and send it to the machine shop for testing, various cooling system components that are likely worn out, misc gaskets and seals not related to the cylinder head that may need attention while the engine is pulled apart... And then you have to hope the bottom end is still solid.
Honestly, I'd pass on the car unless you're mechanically inclined enough to do the job yourself. It's just not worth it IMO. As others have mentioned, you don't know just how deep the feces is. It's one thing to justify sinking a few grand into a car you have a history with; you know the trans is good, brakes are good, suspension is good, etc. On a car that you can't even drive? Who the hell knows? You could easily end up spending $5k+ on the endeavor and still only have a car worth $2-3k after all is said and done.
There are other fish in the sea.

That's my point. When I look to purchase a car, I look at the blue book value, then back out the retail cost of necessary repairs. The blue book on the cleanest '94 850 is $3,000 at best. The retail cost of a head job is $2,400 at an indi shop and over $3,800 at the dealer, which exceeds the value of the car. So, the car is only worth what a salvage yard will give you for it. That doesn't even consider other issues that you CAN NOT even check for because you can't start or drive the car.
hmm damn. my dad is a mechanic so we could do the head gasket, but i guess i let me wanting the car got in the way of thinking straight. maybe ill offer him junk price and if its too bad just have some parts for mine
Have you brought this up with him to make sure he'd be willing to/has the time to help out with the head gasket? I've known quite a few techs that pretty much refused to work on cars in their off time.
I know it seems like an obvious thing, but I've seen many ambitious father-son projects become nothing more than yard ornaments.
