Default Fitting a spoiler + Paint scratches/Thin paint

Hi,
I'm thinking of fitting a spoiler on my 95 T5, I know someone who is thinking of scrapping an 850 with a spoiler so I was thinking of giving him a fiver for it or something and trying to fit it to my car. How difficult is this especially as the spoiler is a different colour?

It looks like there is a brake light in the spoiler but my car has a light in the rear glass that would be obscured, should I wire them both up or just the rear spoiler?

Also the paint is very thin as it has been polished to nothing and has a few scratches especially on the boot and the roof. Anyone got any tricks to touch these up without it looking like a complete mess. The best idea I've come up with is coloured wax but is there any more permanent options without going as far as a re-spray (I'm poor after buying the car).

Many thanks
Iain

Sorry, I don't have much help to offer...

http://www.paintscratch.com has great touch-up paint -- you can even get it with flexible additive.

If you get the chance to see the boot lid after he removes the spoiler take some measurements of where the holes are or make a template out of cardboard. It will make your fitting easier.

You should be able to spray the spoiler with aerosols and get a near enough match on the colour.

The brake light should only be wired to either the existing one or to the spoiler otherwise you might find yourself being stopped by the previous owner! It may also upset the bulb malfunction indicator.

As for your paint problems - sorry no way other than a respray. The coloured wax will work as a stopgap but it does wash off eventually so will need to be re-applied at regular intervals.

Cheers guys.

I'm in Scotland so stuff needs to be for UK, I can actually get touch up paint from the dealer but I've never had much success with touch up with other metallic cars.

As for wax, I suppose that's what I'll have to do until I manage to scrape enough together for a re-spray, if it's worth it on the car. My flatmate's girlfriend got a silver primera re-sprayed for £350 but I think that was by a mate as someone told me that was cheap.

While I was looking for somewhere that would give an estimate for a re-spray I found this, anyone got experience with them?

Re The Spoiler, it depends whether the guy is going to scrap the car or keep it and that depends on the estimates he gets from the garages (MOT failure). How are they fixed to the boot if it's a fair bit of work I have a friend who specialises in accident repair work who'd fit it cheap as I'm cack-handed in the extreme (I can put together a computer with my eyes closed but always seem to break at least one vital part when "mending" cars).

I'll have a look round scrap yard if he doesn't get rid of it however I'd guess they may be rare, although I did read about someone here using a C70 spoiler on an 850 which is a possible.

The other quick Q that's just occurred to me is about the badges, Are they just glued on to the back on the 850 as there seems to be a conflicting info on the net. Some say they use plastic "legs" that go into holes on the body and some say they are simply glued on.

Cheers
Iain

I'm in England.

I have no experience of that particular company but I have used similar. They do a first class job with minor dents, scratches and chips but would not do a full respray as most of their work is done at the customer's home or work place.

The spoiler will be fixed with screws.

The badges are fixed with double sided tape which can be awkward to get off without breaking the badges. Warm the area with a hair dryer or hot air gun - do not burn the paint off - then slip a piece of fine wire behind the badge and cut through the tape. Remove any tape still on the body.

If you do go for touch in paint stay away from Volvo dealers. It is cheaper to go to a car paint supplier and have him mix it for you. He should be able to put it into an aerosol. Don't forget to get lacquer to finish the job.
