Default Front mount inside of grill for ???

I got my grill out today, trying to solve my airflow issues now that it is getting hotter. I noticed this strange extra section of fiberglass. It has a hole in the middle for something, but I don't know what.

Its to the far right, opposite the horn mount. it drops down from the top.

anyone know what this is for? its right in front of the stock air intake(which makes no sense as to why it would block that at all...) This a non-turbo, mabye on the turbos something is attached but I can't figure out what it might be.

it probably is a shield to prevent water to come in while driving....

Wait for Tech to come on

is it a plastic guard? does seem as though it is to protect it from rain... may or may not be a good idea. i have drove in HEAVY rain and snow up here in wisconsin though with no issues.

surprised volvo didn't put a non-working wiper on that to

Lol.... It does look as if it is a guard of sorts. Maybe for water to get in. I belive the Turbo air intake is behind there as also the ecu air tube.
