frozen locks, how to defrost
Since i just got my volvo, this is the first time the locks got frozen. Is there a special way to get them to work. I did not want to force it to turn because i only have one key to the car. I would have use the lock de icer but since the keys are kind of different (cool looking) i thought i should ask before trying.
Thanks

Hi,
If the lock froze due to low temp, I would try one or more of the following:
1. Just a tiny bit of WD-40
2. Hair dryer, if you have a long extension cord.
3. Heating pads (I've seen them at Dick's Sporting Goods store)
4. Place a cup of hot coffee and let the paper cup touch thelock cylinder (do not spill it into the cylinder)
5. Just a tiny bit of liquid-type graphite lubricant.
When the lock works again, I would use some powder-type graphite lubricant into the lock cylinder. Also, wait till other people reply, someone else might have better idea than I do.
Good luck,
JPN

That means i can use lock de icer. I heard it works best. I just wanted to make sure putting something of that sort into the keyhole would not harm it.
