Thanks Volgrr and JPN. I pulled the relays on the rad and those in the fusebox with no change. Same with the door lights. The local indy took the car within 3 days (as opposed to the usual 3 weeks) so it is in his capable hands now. I printed out what had already been tried, hoping that will save us a few hours labor. Hoping it is not an ECU.... sounds expensive!

At this point I can only assume that there is a wire that is chafed & exposed and touching the ground somewhere.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you better. Let us know what the technician finds. Sometimes it is not possible to do an accurate diagnosis without testing the car, which is the reason why I do not trust the Car Talk guys.
