the good news is, i got a new(used) car this afternoon. a 93 volvo 850 sedan. it was owned by someone in my neighborhood and it has been garaged kept w/ one owner.

i took it out this evening for a drive and i like it, the first time i've ever driven a stick, and i was doing quite well. i only stalled once or twice until i got the hang of it.

ok now for the bad news...

i shifted from 2nd to 3rd, and when i was in neutral i pulled my foot off the clutch a little bit, and when going into third i heard a grinding. i think i revved it up a little more than i had it at and put it into 3rd no problems. then i downshift at a light, everthing fine.

to make this short, everytime i upshift or downshift into 3rd i hear/feel a little grinding. i think this is bad, and has bummed my night out. anyone have any suggestions on what could be the problem. something is wrong, but i hope its a quick fix. probaly not.

 

I would make sure your clutch master cylinder is bled properly and there is no air in the system.Have the gear oil level checked.If everything is ok then you might be looking at a transmission or having a rebuild done.

 

should i drain the trans fluid and replace and see if that helps?

 

You can I just don't remember how to do it on the manuals.It has been a really long time since I've replaced the fluid in the stick shift cars.
