Default Head Gasket Help PLEASE

Hey. Although I’ve got a bunch of info from this site…this is my first post. I’m in the process of bolting back together my engine after a head gasket job.

Car - 1997 850 GLT

After bolting head back with new head bolts and torquing them to the specs in the Haynes manual, I have read that my torque specs are wrong. Having read the sticky tutorial I have discovered that the torque specs in the manual are wrong.

What I torqued:
1st – 15 f/lbs
2nd – 37 f/lbs
3rd – 130 degrees

What I’ve read its supposed:
1st – 15 f/lbs
2nd – 44 f/lbs
3rd – 130 degrees

Now…if my second torque is off, then the third torque is off too. Is this tolerable or should I buy new bolts and gasket and replace? This car is a daily driver and completely stock with no mods.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

There is not that much difference and it should be fine, I would not worry about it if it were my own car.

My first choice would be to do nothing.

My 2nd choice would be to loosen them up and then retorque them to the correct specs.

No way would I buy new bolts, take the head off, replace the gasket again and then put in the new bolts.

I really doubt 7 ft lbs is going to make any difference though, so I would go with what others have said.

Id leave it alone and call it good. 7 ft lbs is NOT gonna make a huge difference - you're talking about MAYBE 1/6th turn there.

Awesome...thanks for all the help. Glad to hear I don't have to do all that again.
