Default Headlight Glass removal-newbie

Hi,

I am a total Volvo newb. I have a friend that has a '96 850. The passenger side headlight lens is cracked, and needs to be replaced. She figured that since I drive european car and I do most of my own work, I could help her, as the Ford and Chevy guys tell her "No Way".

I have read that the light assembly comes out by removing the parking lamp assembly, the wiper arm and trim, and by removing 3 10 mm bolts.

Seems simple enough. My question is, where is the parking lamp retaining spring?

I drive an old MB 300D w/Bosch Euros, and the lens retaining clips appear to be the same, so no issues there, that I can see, as I have replaced the glass lenses on it due to errant rocks.

I am glad to see this car has the glass lenses vs. the plastic ones.

Thanks!

Removing the glass does require taking the headlights off as you've said but ti think there is a way to slide the bottom 3 clips out without taking it all off, not sure. Anyways if you see the black retaining clips all you need to do is undo them and carefully take off the existing glass and replace in reverse order, you need a flat head screw driver and some patience and you should be okay.

For a better description here is a video i found for ya, its very helpful this guy is awesome for showing how to do volvo repairs.

There is a spring clip that goes from the parkig light to the headlight. You just unclip it form the back of the headlight and the parking light comes right out. You can actually pull the parking light out part way to see the spring and then you will know exactly what I am talking about. The parking light is not in there very tight at all. When I did mine I removed the hood latches to get to the bolts holding the headlight more easily.

Thanks guys! Those clips used on the lens look like the ones on my Euro's for my old Benz.

On the headlight wiper arm, does the plastic end piece lift off like a windshield wiper's to remove it's retaining nut?

Thanks!

How do you remove the wiper arm? The trim looks easy to remove.

To replace the lens, can you remove the whole headlight assembly (via the bolts) and lift it forwards of the trim, without removing the wiper arm & trim?

Don't know which method is easier. Bolts are not easily accessed on the passenger side, & its a greasier job.

OK, here's the problem. There are TWO plastic covers.

A long one over the entire arm. Pop that off and

You can swivel a pivoted cover off of the end of the shaft, to reveal the nut.
