Heated seats cycling?
Hi 850 owners! 95 850 wagon, 203k Drivers seat wouldn't heat, I did the probe testing and I determined the seat pad was burned out. I removed the seat, took the bottom leather off and saw a burned spot right in front. I easily soldered the wires back together, patched some fabric over the solder spot (fixed the no recline cable on the back too) and reinistalled the seat with no bottom leather. Connections to the thermostat looked good. Hooked up the connections.
It seems like now I can feel the set warming up within a minute or two, but seems like it cycles back off. by the time I'm at work (15 minute drive) I've got nothing. Does something like this indicate a bad thermostat (in the seat bottom). Thought I need to look for another break, but I do feel heat- but only for a little while. Any words of wisdom? Thanks! Dave

The thermostat is suppose to cycle the seat heater. Off when the seat gets up to like 95 degrees F, and back on if the seat temp falls below 58 degrees F. So, if the car is warm, and the seat is warm, it will NOT turn back on unless it gets cold again.
rspi- Guess i'm (once again) comparing this car to my 89 240DL, man those seats would COOK. Maybe as a test I'll try driving home one night with the heat off, maybe even put the windows down, see if it stays hot longer. (btw- left the bottom leather off so I could do more testing if I need to, I'll re install when I know everything is working)
I want this sucker to heat. Really heat. gets warm, just never gets hot. Suppose the real test will be what does it do when it is 5 degrees outside with a foot of snow on the hood :-) Dave

rspi- Well thats kinda a drag! Sounds like another instance of someone else determining whats best for me! I want to turn them on and they get hot- I turn them off they get cool. Why is that such a big request?
What would happen if I just jumped the two wires at that seat thermostat and took that thing out? Would I cause all kind of problems? burned out heater wires etc? Probably not a good idea, right?
Our 2002 Buick Rendezvous has heated seats- they cook and stay on until I turn them off. When it gets really cold up here, the regular heat doesn't really do it on my 6 mile commute- not like my 240 did (rest her soul). Thought good hot seats would help me get through our long Syracuse winter.
Thanks again for your input! Dave
