Default heater core?

im noticing i get the smell of coolant from the vents sometimes and, after hard excelration sometimes it looks like a small amount of steam comes out.. is this the heater core?

Hi,

Pressure test the cooling system to locate the leak. If pressure tester is not available, let the engine idle for 15-20 minutes and look for leak. If you do not see any obvious leak, then the heater core may be shot. Also, check the firewall where the heater hoses meet the heatercore inlet & outlet, it may be leaking there in which case you only need new O-rings I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I hope this gets you started. Keep safety in mind when working on the cooling system, as it's under high-pressure & temperature.

I'd say your diagnosis of the heatercore is correct from the symptoms you're talking about. Do you notice a coolant smell anyother time? Wet carpets?

Like JPN said, please check the hose connections at the firewall first. It may be something fairly simple as a loose hose.
