Hello Guys!
First post... Thank you all for your contributions and time.I browsed the database before I posted this, so if I missed the answer sorry.
Here is my 'issue' Yesterday I bought a used (94) 850 (NON-TURBO), it has 171K on the clock and is in superior condition. Problem is this, it starts just fine then dies, everytime, I had to give it gas and ride the brakes to get it home, I thought something like pulling the codes and cleaning the cam sensor connections, crank sensor connections, IACV, and MAF would remedy this situation...It did not.
The code I pulled was a 214 which states...ignition RPM signal eratic...which I presume is the crank sensor...
Any other ideas or input are welcome and requested...
Thanks again
Oh one more thing is I can keep it running by applying the gas...and nursing the throttle?

I did clean the IACV with carb cleaner, all I could really do is squirt it in via the big hoses, Is there another way? And the throttle body, should I remove it? Or just spray the cleaner all around it? What about the 2-1-4? Any ideas, I will get to the throttle body...Thanks again...whatever is keeping this Volvo from running isn't much!
Thank You for your time

Remove the idle motor all together and clean it and make sure it moves freely.
You can clean the throttle body without removing it if you want. But if you clean it on there you might have a little bit if a hard time on the first start up but then it will be fine.

Tech...Thanks...you are alright, appreciate your input. The IACV has 2 hoses coming out of it and one harness that plugs into it...(right?). If so sprayed carb cleaner inside it and shook it around, also I verified the resistance according to the manual and it checks out ok.. I am going to the bone yard to pull a crank position sensor and multi function switch...I will clean the throttle body too...I hope to get my NEW volvo running right tonight...thanks again
