Exclamation Help!!!!

Hi everyone
My 96' 850 glt has a exhaust leak. it is loud enough that it sounds like the muffler isn't there at all. but once the engine warms up the noise level goes back to normal.just like it had a brand new exhaust.
the noise seams to be coming from the middle of the car...about where the front seats are.
thanks for the help.

Sounds like your going to need to get that car in the air. There is a joint there right past the little cross member that is probably leaking and when the pipe warms up it expands closing the gap.

Have you tried to tighten the clamp yet?
I would bring it to a muffler shop and have them weld it

If you need a little more "pipe" you can try a "Band Clamp". They are a couple inches wide and put "muffler tape" in the bubble gum repair category where it belongs. It's really a poor repair that doesn't hold up well (in almost all cases). Check out the link below. You would need to find out the diameter of the pipe or at least get under there with a tape measure or some string and accurately measure the circumference. These band clamps should be available at any auto parts stores but I'd call ahead to make sure they have the size you need in stock. In case you're a little rusty the circumference divided by 3.14 will give you the diameter.

If at all possible, try and refrain from having the joint welded and work at having a clamp hold the joint tight. Once that joint is welded, any future repairs to a single section will need to be cut then welded again.
