Help please
Ok, i just came back from the volvo dealership(took the volvo 850 T5) and they said that mecanically everything is perfect, but here are the several problems the car have)
1. A/C is not working, they need to change like 4 parts in it for it to work
2. Odometer is not working, its stuck at 79k miles
3. Velocimeter(not sure if this is right) is not working, it wont show at the speed im going
4. I have to paint the engine hood, and the fenders
5. Bumper is WHITE, well is black and white.
And thats mainly it, i told the guy that he needed to lower the price from 6k to 4,500 and he said ok, but im still hesitant about buying it, is it really worth it? i mean im lucky if i sell my volvo 940(51k miles, perfect interior and exterior) for 4.5k and im not sure its worth selling it to buy a car that is gonna need more than 1k of work on it, and that is from 1996 comprared to mine which is a 1995, i found another volvo 850, but its not a turbo for 5k, but im not sure i wanna buy a non turbo 850. Please help me

Only you can decide.
Did they give you an Estimate on repairs?
Depending on what needs to be done with the A/C could cost you about $2000.00
The odometer is most likely the gear.
The speedometer might be from a bad ABS module.
What is wrong with the Paint on there now?

The paint on the hood is like, i dont know how to explain it, but the sun burnt it off, its not peeled, but you can see it definitely. The A/C they gave a final price of $1,500, and that was at the dealership(volvo), tomorrow i will be taking the car to the mechanic im taking my volvo 940, because there's where the old owner took it, and they can give me the full history of the car. The paint job came to around $240 dollars, the mechanics at the volvo dealership said that it was a sensor that was bad(for the odometer and speedometer), And i think i can lower the price to $4,200 or less. Also, i pressed the accelerator down and the car flew(amazing car!!) and after that i could smell like a burnt plastic or somethign else, the guys at the dealership(were im buying the car) said that it was because of when it rains the water accumulates in a hole in the trunk and when it falls on the muffler it smells like that, I DONT THINK SO, i think that maybe the clutch is bad(automatic car) or the radiator is broken? but the smell wasnt coming from the engine, it was coming from beneath the car.
and how can i fix the speedometer, i was going at 140 and the speedometer marked 0, hehe

Well, every one of my friends say its the radiator because they had had the same problem, the A/C in the place i was taking the 940, the mechanic said it will cost about 350 dollars to fix, the paint job, i can try calling a different place than the volvo, the molding(not sure this is the word) its the black things around the car(the trims?) that go from the windshield all the way to the back of the car, are white also, how can i fix this? with black bumper forever(i think its the name of the product) or do i need to replace the molding? if i can get the price to be 4,200, should i get it or not? counting all the repairs i need
I hate A/C problems. If the dealer wants $1500 and another place says $350, something is not right. What would really concern me though is the odomoter not working. Is there a way to tell the actual mileage? Personally I would not pay more than $4,000 for a car where I have no idea how many miles are on it and it's 12 years old. I'm sure you can find a better deal if you keep looking. I agree that you should not buy one that is not a Turbo. Back in 94 I was test driving almost new 850's that were non turbo. As soon as I drove one with a Turbo I bought it right then and there. Of course I was making more money then than I am now.
On the 1996 and 1997 850's the milage can be checked by the Dealers scanner.
We used to check it and have the speedo's set to the car milage when we had them repaired.
