Here's a head scratcher.
Did something similar this summer on my 97 GLT. CEL was on, State inspection with emissions coming up. Changed oil, filter etc. Noticed my battery connections were slightly corroded. Cleaned battery terminals, which meant taking off cables. Started engine, and to my surprise,,,no CEL. Drove around a few miles, still no CEL(check engine light) incase your lost for a second. Took in for inspection,,testing equipment read "Not ready for testing". I told the garage what I did. They said drive car for at least 100 miles, then bring back. The ECU has to take in data to reset itself, and you must drive stop and go,,highway,,etc. If you drove over 150 miles or so, and no CEL,,YOU might be ok.

Dude, that CEL is the least of your worries...
