Default Hi everyone.

I've got two problems 1) Every now and then I get white smoke out of the exhaust pipe of my 95 850. I also, seem to burn or lose one quart of oil every tank of gas. I've got 188,000 miles on the car. Is this a turbo or engine valve seal problem? Or neither of the above.

Problem 2) Yesterday, my blower motor for my heater/AC stopped working. Contacted the dealer to check it out today. But, on my way, it started working again. So I went to work as usual. Well, as you would expect, it stopped again while I was driving to get lunch. Is there a relay or resistor located anywhere that I can check or replace? Any ideas on what might be the problem...help please

White smoke would be an indication that you are burning off antifreeze.

Look under your car and see if you see oil gathered anywhere.

There is a resistor for the fan speed that is accessible by removing the passenger side knee bolster.

Could be burning the oil. Are you leaking any?
Are you using coolant?

I would say the blower motor and resistor are bad.
The resistor might be the main problem but when they go bad they usually burn the motor up as well.

Not leaking any oil anywhere, but I'm definitely burning it from somewhere. My coolant level has remained the same, not losing any I'm aware of.

How difficult is it to change the resistor out?

I'll check again, although, the last time I changed the oil, I did not see anything under the car and I never leave oil spots on the ground or floor of the garage.

Excuse, my ignorance...what is the passenger side knee bolster? Does it have another name? Is just under the glove box, too the right when sitting in the car or closest to the center compartment (radio, A/C controls, etc.)?

For the Oil loss have a compression test done.

The knee bolster is the Metal bracket under the dash. It is Black you will have to remove it to gain acces to the resistor.

The resistor is about in the middle of the white box once you get the Bolster out of the way.
It has 2 plugs going to it. It is black and is held in with one T-15 screw.

Default RE: Hi everyone.

I learned something new today (knee bolster). Thanks! I'll try checking that area out over the weekend. Hopefully, the resistor won't cost too much. I heard of a place that will let you purchase and return electronic parts and only charge a 10% restocking fee.

Thanks again.
