Default high level brake light (saloon)

afternoon everyone

just going to share my experience with my high-level brake light on my 850.

for a few months id been getting the bulb malfunction light coming on when i pushed the brakes. the centre brake light was not coming on. check the bulb, seemed ok. put it back in and it worked fine again for a few minutes.

this started and stopped for a few months. i kept playing with the fitting, checking the wiring, the bulb, everything round there.

this afternoon i decided to nail this down. while testing the circuit i noticed the bulb was lighting up with changing brightnesses. some taps of the brake were full brightness then otheres were real dim. voltage testing confirmed this. i dismanted more of the fitting to find that there was arcing of the sliding terminals that allow the fitting to be decoupled from the rear shelf. the terminals car-side had got so hot that theyd melted a bit of their plastic surround.

i cleaned the area up with a knife, wud have been sand/glass paper but not got any. lots of burnt metal and dust around. and it works like new again!

any one with similar experience of this?

Rich
