I have a 1996 850 Turbo Wagon.

I know the XC 70 Wagon sits higher off the ground than the 850.

What makes the XC 70 sits higher?

I would like to make my 850 sits higher off the ground.

1) Can that be done?
2) How?

 

Don't the XCs have the Nivomat suspension??

The AWD springs are heavier as well.

I checked out the IPD "overload" springs -- they onlyadd 0.5 inch of lift.
Iwould like to have 2-3 inches of lift.

If any XC70 owner have loweredhis car and haveapair of long REAR XC springs for sale, consider selling them to me.

Does anyone know if I have to change the rear shocks as well (to go with the longer springs)?

 

I would think that you would have to change the shocks as they are preset for a certain amount of travel. If you didn't, then you run the risk of the suspension not functioning properly, which could be dangerous.
