How long will these cars last?
Hi! I will inherhit my Dad's 1994 Volvo 850 next year when he gets a new car
We bought it new off the showroom floor in Nov 94 and aside from a few very minor problems, it's been bulletproof. I plan on driving it till it explodes, or is wrecked, whichever comes first
My question is this, how long have these cars been know to last with normal maintenance? Is 400K or 500K typical?
Also, how often should things like tranny fluid & fuel filters be changed, etc?
Thanks for any replies.

RE: How long will these cars last?
My family has owned many volvo's over the years. We recently gave away the model that preceded 850. It was verry similar, it was one of the models that looks REAL old. My point is that it was an 85. It had only started to act up. I think you are good man.

The 850 is not as durable nor as forgiving as the older models but I currently have customers with 300 - 400K on the cars. The most important thing is to replace timing belt and tensioners when they are due or before. The transmission should be flushed every 60K and the fuel filter every 30K.

I have also had Volvos for years, the major components are basically bulletproof. All of my cars have run well past 250K. 400K or 500k mile cars are pretty rare, but they're out there. I would expect an 850, though not quite as reliable as the older Volvos, to run well past 200K it properly maintained.

In 2001, a 1969 volvo hit 1,000,000 Miles....so....any other questions
The newer Volvo are acting up a little, with O2 sensors going bad, brakes needing a lot of work and the throttle bodies malfunctioning on some cars, but Volvo's are absolute TANKS. If i had to live in Fallujah in any kind of car, it'd be a 87 volvo station wagon
