Hi. I did not receive the keyless entry remote when I bought my 1997 850 GLT wagon. I always suspected it had keyless entry installed because the lights flash when you lock the car and then, the other day, the alarm went off.So, does anyone know what the easiest and cheapest way to replace this remote would be? I will need to know how to program it as well. Any ideas? Thanks. (Also, is the part # I am looking for #9148646?)

 

Ok this is the 3rd time I have tried to respond to this.

Try e-bay. When you get the correct remote you need to turn the ignition from off to II five times. After the fifth time leave it on and press one of the buttons on the remote until the light on the top of the dash quits blinking.

I have done this once successfully and can not get any of my other remotes to program. I have one for each car, but wanted one to work all three cars. When you program you actually program the car to the remote as opposed to the remote to the car. So if you have more than one remote you need to do all of them each time you do one.

I ordered a keyless entry remote from ebay for my 1997 850 GLT wagon. The part the dealership told me I neededbased onmy VIN number was part #9148646, so that is the one I ordered.The remote has lock and unlock buttons only, but my car does have an alarm. I received the remote today and followed the instructions above. When the ignition is left on (after the 5th time of turning the key to position II), I pressed the lock button and the light on the dash does flash rapidly for a while--but then nothing. Obviously, the car is trying to recognize the transmitter, but the remote still doesn't work. Did I buy the wrong remote? (It has a brand new battery, so that's not it). Also, on another site, someone mentioned that the receiver and the remote may be working on different frequencies if programming doesn't work. (9148646 corresponds with "A"?) Does anyone know where the receiver is located in the car and/or how to check for frequency compatibility?

 

I have the exact same problem with some of my remotes while others work fine. I really don't know the answer, but if you figure it out please post what you find. Both mathewsvolvosite.com and volvospeed.com have writeups about this problem. Sorry I was not more help.

 

I was finally able to get a keyless remote that worked from ebay, believe it or not (with new batteries --total $15.00including shipping! Plus the $30 for the wrong one I bought, of course). Apparently, the 1997 850 GLT's had two different styles of remotes. Mineturned out to bethe laterstyle that has the big panic/lock button and the unlock button below it. I programmed it exactly like you said and it worked great! Thank you so much for the help!
