Default Ignition malfunction / problem

Have an 1996 Volvo 850 with some ignition lock "gremlins". Just wonder if this is common to the 850's or just Volvos in general. When I go to start the car, it starts just fine, but to get all circuits and interlockings to activate I need to turn the ignition key just a hair counter-clockwise. This allowes i.e the auto head lights to come on, the car can be shifted out of park etc. Is this common to the age of the car, and what it the fix for it ?

Welcome to the forum.

Before I start, please take a look at the following thread posted yesterday:

https://volvoforums.com/m_65652/tm.htm

I am not sure if the same situation applies to yours, but I used to drive '94 turbo and its ignition switch was sensitive.

Wait till someone else replies to you; there are quite a few experts in the 850 forum. Someone may have had a similar problem and may be able to provide you with better solution.

I hope this is of some use.

Thanks JPN
I will keep my eyes open for some other suggestions, but if I tear into the ignition lock and find something interesting I will post what I found.
