Default Long crank, + Black puff of smoke.

1995 850 T.
I have to crank my car for about 3-5 seconds, When it starts I get a puff of black smoke which smells like fuel. Shaky idle for 5-10 seconds then it settles at 900Rpm.

All signs seem to point towards a leak down problem with one of the injectors. But I don't know Volvos that well as this is my first. Is there anything else I should check.

I also just did my timing belt Could my timing be off by chance? The Engine was sitting for 6 months and I still have lifter chatter after 200 miles, any suggestions?

I get a CEL for 1-2 min after start-up then it turns off not sure what it is.

Car and injectors have 148k miles, Engine has 121K. The engine came with Bosch Red injectors but I re used the old orange ones off the bad engine, Would I be able to run the red injectors?

I noticed after 15 min I had no rail pressure, Pulled the rail and flipped the key to pressurize the rail and found no injector drip.

No fuel in the FPR lines, Could I have a bad check valve on the fuel pump?

That is possible.
Did you look at the injector good for seepage?

I looked for a good 3-5 min, would it have started to seep at that point?

I will take another look at the injectors, black smoke is a solid sign of unburnt fuel right? My cat has a hole in the side of whatever that mesh is, could this be my problem?

I will get 2 Codes on start-up they quickly turn off

One is P0245: Turbo/Sup Wastegate Solenoid A Low
Other is P1417 4-1-3 EGR temperature sensor signal Low

That could be an issue with the running of it.

I rechecked the FPR, The line was full of gas.

Should I replace this with OEM Volvo or aftermarket?

still having the lifter noise? subtle lifter noise is apparently a common side effect of letting an 850 sit for a while. Sometimes it doesn't resolve completely, or only resolves after some travel, only to resurface the next time it is started cold. so I was curious as to what you are experiencing.

Yep I still have the lifter noise. It's not as loud but I still hear it when the hood is up.

You also have to remember that this is the only volvo I've ever been around, Loud to me may be normal.
