Looked at a 1998 V70R today, need opinions.

The big thing is where you stand with skills and money. If you spend more buying a 4WD and then end up with something expensive breaking and end up pulling a shaft and turning it into a heavy 2WD you wasted the premium you spent getting the 4WD and you are pushing around the extra weight ($$gas) and still spinning heavier 4WD components ($$gas) even if you pull the rear shaft.

Looks like I have found a '98 V70R that is going to be perfect for me. The bad news is it is 7 hours away. So the owner is getting it prepared for sale, going to send me extensive videos, and have it checked out by a mechanic before I fly do to buy the car.
It has tasteful mods including a lot of IPD stuff including some nice looking 17" rims with brand new tires. swaybars, Koni Sport shocks, etc. The main issues seem to be a weeping ATF leak and a driver's seat that needs a bolster repaired. It also comes with all the Weathertech mats that I was planning to buy so I could carry my dog. Hopefully this car checks out and I am driving it home in the next week or so.
