wheel, tire sizes, and snow..
Yeah I know it's August in the upper half of the world but I'm thinking ahead..
Just picked up an 855T with aftermarket wheels on it. From research the turbo models came stock with 6.5 X 16.0" wheels and std tire size would be 205/50-16.
But then volvo states in owner's manual:
"Snow chains may be mounted on tire dimension 185/65R15 and 195/60R15. Tire dimension 205/55R15 and 205/50R16 require a special type of snow chain. Consult your Volvo retailer. Snow chains may not be used on 205/55R16
If accessory, aftermarket or "custom" tires and wheels are installed and are of a size different than the original tires and wheels, chains in some cases CANNOT be used. Snow chains cannot be used on those turbo models fitted with all-season tires 205/55 R16 or 205/45 R17. Models equipped with 205/55 R15 or 205/50 R16 need specially designed snow chains. Sufficient clearances between chains and brakes, suspension and body components must be maintained."
Both my current 855-N/A and S70 GLT have 6.0 X 15" wheels with 195/60-15 tires and i can fit snow chains on them w/o issue.
In my local we don't get a lot of snow, but when we do, it's going to be there for awhile (the city has minimal snow plowing equip) and my old 855 w/chains was our main transpo in those situations.
So what do you guys in snow country w/turbos that have 205/50-16 tires, or larger, do when chains are needed? I really don't have storage space for a set of winter wheels/tires. I.e. is there a snow chain solution for 205/50-16 tire size?
Thanks in advance for any input..

My 850 turbo wagon is on the 16" rims. I got the car last August and it has snow tires on the front rims. I live in BC, and I went through last winter and it was fine in the snow. The rear tires are two different brands with tread patterns that I would call all season. The car went up the hills just fine and was easy to handle. Like your area, there isn't much snow removal equipment here. I would say if you can find them get a couple of rims and a set of snows for the front and you'll be fine.
