Default Looking at a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo Need Advice

This Volvo is for sale asking $3,500 and it looks real nice. I have not seen in person, and stopped pursuing when I found out that the odometer is broken and the owner is suggesting to me that it may only have 70,000 miles on it. My question is this: Even if it is great shape and perhaps the actual miles are 150K, how do you replace the odometer and restore some sort of integrity to the vehicle. I will ask for the vin and start there. Any suggestions appreciated.

Check out the frequently used threads sticky at the top of the forum. There you will find threads for how to fix the odometer gear(common problem and easy to fix), you will also find a thread about how to check the actual mileage using the dtc box under the hood. If it has less than 100000 miles I would offer 2750 and start from there, assuming nothing major is wrong. There are threads covering just about everything so if you browse about for an hour or so I'm sure a lot of your questions will be answered. If you do your own work I would def consider getting the 850. If the miles turn out to be around 150000 maybe 2000 would be a fairer price, but still well worth the investment. Good luck!

Ps. If you do buy the car, get yourself a spoiler. Just don't look right without.

Thank you. That was quick and very helpful. I really do like the looks of this car. You are so right about the spoiler. I also saw someone just posted a 95 850 T5-R with 175K, is black and has the spoiler. They want $3,500 as well. Says its is runs great and has all records of service.

Do you think 175K not big concern, and is $3.5k fair price. I think I am going to jump on it in the morning. Thank you

Check both cars out in person for sure. Find the miles on the Turbo. With all things being equal go for the T5R for sure, but if the other one has way less miles and you can get it for quite a bit less money, they are really the same car. The T5R is a rare model and worth somewhat more, but if I found a Turbo model with less than 100K, in great shape, for less money, I would buy it instead. Again this is just my opinion. Now if the T5R was yellow that's a whole different ball game. There were only 185 yellow T5R's brought into the US and only about 800 black ones.
