If your cooling system is not leaking, it could be air pockets getting replaced with coolant.

When a hose is in an upside down "U", you will have air in the top of the U until coolant circulates enough times to evacuate the air.

The heater core has both supply and return on the bottom of the core - so that's one location for an air pocket.
Watch the coolant level and add as necessary. It should stop dropping once all the air pockets are gone.

Look at the exploded "larger picture" here: The 850 has the same core.

I have heard of people using synthetic tranny fluid. Not sure if it is the Mobil 1 brand. As long as it meets the DEX III standards it should be ok. Check the transmission service thread and the Noob sticky, it has transmission service details there.

It is not uncommon for clamps/connections to leak after this job. It will take a few tightening-tries until everything is buttoned up.
