Pretty sure there is no manual crank for the sunroof. I've never seen one ever.

that would figure... its been stuck open for a week now and it will only slide a few inches then slide back open again. sounds like something is grinding (sounds like plastic) and the dealer wants $115 just to look at it. not exactly in my budget right now. im nervous about taking it apart myself. its basically shrink wrapped right now and with this rain... THAT is now coming off.
i thought i saw something the other day about a manual way but of course i cant remember where...

It could have come off track, or you may have a motor out that when you try to close it, it gets cocked inside the opening not allowing it to close. Try have someone hold down the close button and then you hold it straight and help push it close.

two things.

1) if you take off the from light/sun roof switch you will see the motor for the sun roof. in the center of the round part you will see a black circle with a slit in it. insert the largest/deepest screw driver you can and turn away. that is the manual cranking option, and it works quite well.

to remove the lighting:

1) remote the lighting lens's on the driver and passenger side (use a small flat tip and they will pry right out (similar to a switch)

2) use a torx wrench (t15 i think) to remove the two screws you see next to the light bulb after you remove the lens caps

3) wiggle the light assembly out (should come out kinda easy) there is only two screws holding it in, so once they are out give it a good pull

second thing is it sounds like the sunroof track has broke or you broke a cable. if you would like i have a full sunroof assembly that i will sell you for cheep. pull yours out, slide mine in, painless. ill even print you out the directions from the VOLVO manual that they have at the dealership.

let me know how it goes.

im leaning towards a broken track... the motor seems to work fine. it would only move a few inches before but i was able to get it a 1/3 of the way but then it slid right back open again. i just want to get it closed and worry about fixing it in the spring...
we got the light assembly off no problem, it's just getting to this black circle with a slit for the screwdriver...

i think if you were to take that plate off you would see the gears and such. i agree that it is riveted on.

open the sun roof up as far as it will go. then put your hand in the middle of it and pull it forward making sure it slides in the tracks evenly. and that should help it get closed.
