Default mobil 1 extended oil filter

guys l need your opinion. l am planning on switching my oil to mobil 1 10w-30 15000miles extended performance and l want to know if it reasonable to use a mann oil filter or a mobil 1 extended performance oil filter. l am doing this for the winter season so l dont have to worry about an oil change for that long. has anyone tried used the mobil 1 extended oil filter before? thank you very much.

I haven't used the mobile 1 filter, but I'm sure interested in watching this can of worms that's just been opened up.

Always use Mann or OEM Volvo oil filters when at all possible. On another note, I would not try to run any oil through an old turbo car for 15,000 miles. Maybe half that but I always change at 5k. Most people wont go that long.

Volvo says:

Engine Oil
Ambient Temperature
Less Than 68F (20C) .................. SAE 5W-30 API SH/CD

-4F To 100F (-20To 38C) .......... SAE 10W-30 API SH/CD

Greater Than 14F (-10C) ............. SAE 15W-40 API SH/CD

You're out of warranty so you can put anything you want to in there. My way of thinking is it's older, higher miles and the tolerances are likely a little bigger then when it was new so I run a little heavier oil. I'm in MN but I like to stick with 10W-30 or 10W-40 in winter. But, I have a fresh tune up and a near new over sized battery.

Who is a the "OEM" manufacturer for Volvo oil filters ??

I have come across posts saying you might have lifter noise if you use a Fram oil filter and I've had that problem when I was using Fram so I switched to Bosch. I haven't come across anything negative about Mobil1s and a lot of guys recommend the Mann brand.

If you wonder what the difference is check this out and see how cheesy the Autozone "Microguard" filter looks inside compared to the others.

I would guess the only person who really knows the answer would be a Mobil engineer who sat in on production and planning meetings.

In my opinion though, the answer is....$$$

It's always $$$

Just leave the filter.

As well as money, it could be that they want to never bypass the filter to make sure they catch anything from being pumped back into the motor.

Oem filter is waay better. I used Mobil1 oil filter for one day but HAD to go to the dealer and get an oem oil filter.

At startup, EVERYTIME with teh M1 it'll clack-clack and the oil light would stay on longer than with the oem one.

Surprising

Ok, and who is it that makes the "OEM" one ??

Are you saying get one from the dealer that says "Volvo" on it or what ??

Yeah i've only gotten my oil filters from the dealer. i guess mann is the supplier i think.

Make sure you don't over tighten it when putting it back on the car, also fill it to the brim and oil up the seal.

When on the car, tighten by hand but not too much, back off a little until you feel the seal is uniform. a drip of oil is ok, too tight is no good.

I didn't use to but I now fill the filter several times when doing an oil change. I fill it, it goes down, I top it off about 4 times before it stays full. I spin it on then go 1/2 to 3/4 tight, it never leaks.

l do same. tighten it up by hand and makes it easy for me removing it on my next oil change.l used to have fram on my volvo and always had a tick on cold start. my oil got black after a month of running regular oil.making the switch to mann made a difference. the oil stays brownish for a long time. never gone back after my switch. volvos kind of act a little selfish. wanting special treatment.LOL
