TUrbo or Non-Turbo? A good ballpark is 24 City and close to 30 highway depending on how you drive it. We are getting that on our 95 Turbo sedan

I rarely get on the highway,,non turbo,,and while we're here,,,it will start in gear,,or more correctly it will turnover and move in gear which was quite suprising...did the mechanic disconnect something when putting the clutch in or is that normal...my miata won't crank without the clutch depressed...thanks

I am getting a constant 21-23 combined, and I do a lot of highway and back roads driving.

My issue is that I KNOW it needs a tune up.

I put Botch plugs in last year when I bought it, which will come out soon.

It needs new plugs, wires, and cap/rotor. Wires are original, don't know about cap/rotor.

I've heard of them getting 30.

I'd like to ideally get that combined, and no less than 25.

Mine seems to like mid-grade the best....No idea why.

Mine are not standard transmissions and they are all turbos, but I am getting 24.7 on the yellow, 25.6 on the white and the red has a broken oddometer, but I guess around 25. This is combined city/highway with a little more highway. I have gotten as high as 32 and never less than 20. When I got 32 I was free rolling down hills and letting it drop down in mph going up hill. Just working it to see how good I could get.

Volvo did not put in a clutch switch for starting the car till 1999. SO all manual cars before 1999 will start in gear.

I'm glad you responded before I did Tech; I was just about to tell him his clutch pedal switch needed adjustment or replacement.

I can't believe volvo got away with importing cars to US w/o a clutch safety switch till '99!? Jeez, I remember my '73 chevy van had one...

I know Volvo was really bad on that one. My 87 Mustang has the switch.

Sorry for bringing up such an old topic, but my car is pretty close to his. I have a 94 850 n/a 5 spd. sedan. Going by the info center, I usually get around 27-28 mpg, sometimes more, with mainly highway with some stop and go driving in Cleveland with a/c off. That is also dealing with slow rush hour traffic going to and from work. With a/c it will drop to around 26-27 mpg. With mainly stop and go driving it is around 25 mpg with spirited driving. I do try to pop it in neutral whenever I can, like getting off the highway or going down hills. That seems to help out the gas mileage. I did get 30 mpg on a 500 mile trip.

I have checked the accuracy of the computer's mpg readings and it is usually within 1 mpg.
