my ECC climate control is bipolar
The ECC climate control on my 850 works fine for cooling - I live in Atlanta and need maximum cooling 10-11 months of the year - but seems to only have two settings for heat.
Turn the temps up all the way and you'll get warm air. Anything less than all the way up will be cool, no matter what the cabin temp.
My wife's S70 has similar ECC and it works nicely, allowing you to really fine-tune the heating.
Is this just a quirk of the 850, or is something wrong here?
Is it likely to be (a) cabin temp sensors; (b) the ECC module itself; (c) the "door" system in the heat/air system? Something else completely?
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: my ECC climate control is bipolar
Hello Mr. Toddmr,
Greetings from Chicagoland.
Are the "REC" and "A/C" lights blinking at the same time for about 20 seconds, after you start the car? If so, you could perhaps start by pulling the codes from OBD-I terminal. For the climate control system, the socket used is B-1. If your 850 is newer (96 or later?), you may have to pull codes via OBD-II, and I am not sure which scanner is able to pull codes from the climate control. Or, you could take the radio out (make sure you have the codes for the radio), take the ECC panel out, disconnect the harness connectors and re-connect to see if it cures the problem, though it doesn't seem likely.
At this point I am not sure what the problem is, but the system is missing anything in between the water valve "open" or "close".
If you could provide us with a bit more findings, we'd be able to help you better.
Regards,
JPN
