My volvo ran out of petrol
hi chaps i'm new hear and have searched through the stickies but can't find any answers hoprfully you can help.
my 850 2.5 20v has been parked up for 2 weeks, when i parked it up the tank was on the red. so i fired it up today no issues parked it in the supermarket car park before going to the petrol station.
went to go to the petrol station and it wouldn't fire up. so thought might be petrol, put petrol in and fired up but now the engine fault light is on and when i drive it now it seems to stutter every so often and then carry on as normal
can any one help?
cheers
andy

RE: My volvo ran out of petrol
Hello mate,
I believe you are in the U.K, AU or NZ? Does the starter crank (I assumeit does)? What model year is your 850?
Some of the popular causes for no-start (engine cranks but does not start) are:
- Retiring fuel pump.
- Retiring fuel pump relay.
- Retiring Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS sensor).
- Retiring Idle Air CTRL valve (IAC valve).
- Retiring Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF sensor); this one is more noted for rough idle.
If you search, you will find a ton of threads related to the same issue. Those threads would guide you as to the location/replacement procedures for the fuel pump & pump relay. If you can tow it to a Volvo garage, they can retrieve fault codes from the engine control computer (ECU/ECM/EEC).
Happy New Year,
JPN
