NA Cams In A Turbo

NA Cams In A Turbo
I have read that putting the 850 NA cams in the turbo engine is a performance upgrade. I am getting ready to take my cam cover off to replace the lifters for cylinder #1 and have a chance to get a set of NA Cams. Should I do it and what does it do? Is there anything special about putting it back in time after doing this? I really don't want to mess anything up.

If NA camshafts can increase the performance of a turbo engine over that with a turbo camshaft, then why oh why would Volvo engineers choose to use what is basically a "detuned" camshaft in their highest performance engine - thereby impeding it overall performance?

The "detuned" camshaft provides an extra margin of safety for large amounts of boost.

I believe it was also due to U.S. EPA spec's and Rules.
I have heard the same about the Cam's and have been trying to make time to go to Ft. Meyers and install one a set in yellow95's T-5 or Glt. Haven't been able to make time yet.
I got him the Cams already and he has them at home.
Just have to make time to go install and see what happens.

I bought them and should have them some time next week. There is quite a bit written about it over on volvospeed. They make is sound like it's a pretty tough job putting them in. I'm going to have my cams out anyway, so I can't see what would be that hard about putting the other ones in. I'm hoping it helps that misfire problem I am still having on cylinder #1.

RE: NA Cams In A Turbo
The main thing is getting them lined up.
There is a special tool to hold them in the proper position.
Do they have the pulleys on them?
If so and no one has messed with the position of the pulleys then they should be pretty easy to install.
But if the pulleys are missing you will need to borrow/buy the Cam lock tool to get them installed.

RE: NA Cams In A Turbo
I just got the cams and they were supposed to come with the pulleys on them but they didn't and I only go one pulley with them. Will my turbo pulleys work with the NA Cams and where can I get this tool that I need to lock the cams? I'm also worried about setting the timing because I have read that you need to advance both intake and exhaust and I have also read to advance intake 1 and leave exhaust at 0. What does the 1 and 0 mean? Put the exhuast right on the mark and advance the intake one tooth or is it degrees?

You could probably make one but might be a pain to make.
Here is a pic of kind of what it looks like it is circled in red.
I will try to get a better pick might take a couple of days though.
The hardest part is that you need to bolt it in the back of the cams and with the Offset of the notches it will be hard to get something cut that will also bolt in.
