Hi all,
I am driving a 850R and it has 190000+ miles on it, the car is still running strongbut there is an oil leak somewhere and I couldn't locate whereis the oil coming from. Can anyone out there help me out and give me a few pointer to start locating the leak?

Some of the popular spots are:
- Oil filler cap gasket.
- Camshaft seals.
- Rear main seal on the crankshaft (hidden between the engine & tranny; the tranny has to be separated from the engine to replace this SOG[8D]).
- Turbo oil return line O-ring.
- Oil cooler hoses; between the metal tubing & where the tubing meets hose portion.
- Oil cooler hose connections.
- Oil thermostat (the thing to the right of the crank pulley)
- Poorly installed oil filter.
- etc...
I would thoroughly clean the engine and locate the sourse of the leak. Use degrease spray available at auto parts shop and scrub clean with a brush. Do not hose off the engine with water; I myself use mistifier (the squirter thing usually used for house plants)and avoid spraying electrical components as much as I can, then let it air dryfor a few hours before attempting to start the engine.
The most popular cause of oil leak = retiring PCV components allowing the crankcase to pressurise. If the PCV components have never been serviced, I would replace the system with a new kit. This, however, requires a new intake manifold gasket as you have to remove the manifold to get to the PCV components.
See what others have to say on this. I know I have missed out something.

I think the oil is coming from the top of the engine....but I will try to replace the PVC first and see what will happen.

Listen to Tech.
Volvos are as durable as Japanese makes or could even outlast, if TLCed.
Keep in mind to make sure that you always TLC your engine with full-synthetic 10W-30 (5W-30 for frigid regions such as Canada) and OEM MANN filter. Also, replace the thermostat if it has never been replaced, and replace engine coolant with 50:50 (60:40 in frigid climate) mix if it has not been done within the last 30,000 miles/3 years (60,000 miles/6 years for newer generation coolant).
My 1st & 2nd replies in the following thread my help you do a good tune-up:

No, not unless your starter is acting up.
The time it takes depends on a person’s skills. Tech could do it in less than an hour but it would take me 3-4 hours because I never had to replace my PCV.
