Default Leaking Oil from Oil cap Tube???

Well after many days of headache, we found our leak. The leak is leaking from the tube that connects the oil cap to the engine, on the top of engine. My father has never seen this before. Where the metal tube meets engine, it is seeping out from there, pretty heavey too. Keeps covering spark plugs and area there, then leaking down back and side of engine. Has anyone run into this? He doesnt think this is a part i can find because its connected to engine.

My question is though can i put a liquid seal around this area? to keep oil from leaking all over? If not i guesse i will have to go to junk yard for this piece, but i would like to use a liquid seal till i can find time and money to get new part.

So can i use a sealer?

Matt

I had a similar leak like that and it was the oil cap seal. Replaced it and no more oil under the spark plug cover. Are you sure it's not the seal?

Hi Matt,

I too, haven't heard of it before. You mean there is a crack on the filler itself, right? If so, I would replace the entire part but as a cheap alternative, try JB Weld or equivalent epoxy. Do not use too much, use just enough to fill the crack and leave it at least several hours before running the engine.

The filler cap gasket on 850 wears out fast, I change mine at every other oil change, as well as the dipstick O-ring.

I still wonder how it developed leak from there.

Its not the oil cap seal, we replaced that already, i bought extras. Its the actual filler itself, the metal part. We were extremely confused up to the point where i tried to put cap on tighter and we saw the filler move just the tiniest bit, we look at eachother and said "did that just move?" Any idea what the part of the engine will cost? probably get it from junk yard. But i will defently find some epoxy, is there any that is better then others? i will have to get from autozone or something. Im just real glad we found the leak, i hope .

Hi Matt,

That really is scary to see that filler neck wanting to move[:@].

I would try JB Weld, most epoxy are priced pretty much the same ($5~$8/tube). Make sure not to run the engine untilthe stuff is fully cured (24 hours? See back of the tube). Yes I too would look for the parts at a junkyard.

Thank you so much. The JB Weld worked great, no more leaking, so far.

Glad the leak has stopped.

In case it should leak again in the future, you might want to locate a new unit at a junkyard but hopefully JB Weld stays for the life of the car.

Good day!
