Default need help PVC/white smoke

I just replaced the complete pvc system on my 96 850 turbo. I'm still having white smoke come out of the oil dipstick tube and oil filler neck. I've also noticed white smoke coming out of exhaust. I have yet to do a compression test however I did check the plugs and they dont look like coolant has been on them as of yet. I bought the car a few weeks ago with apx 140k. What other advice do you guys have? Thanks

Is it white smoke or steam? The latter will dissipate quickly; that's how you can tell the difference. Also, if it's steam, you will loose coolant.

If not steam, then you're burning oil. Yes the turbo is water cooled but it also gets an oil supply too. If you're lucky only the turbo needs rebuild. If you're not lucky it's going by the rings and then it's engine OH time.

ok, I just did a compression check, engine hot and across the board I got between 160-170psi, which sounds good to me. I also pulled the intake pipes off the turbo and there is oil in the turbo. As of now my conclusion is the turbo is bad. As far smoke still coming through dipstick/oil filler I think I will pull new pcv box again and check openings to make sure there are no obstructions. Any other suggestions? Oh the white smoke coming from exhaust is not coolant it does not have a sweet smell/taste, and does not disapate right away. Thanks

Make sure you got those holes up under the intake manifold really cleaned out. Sometimes they are really plugged up. Also make sure you got all the hoses on tight and in the right place. If I remember correctly there was a mistake on one of the diagrams from fcpgroton or IPD. It's been quite a while since I did mine though.

later this week I'll pull the intake manifold again and make sure everything is clear. I bought the complete pvc kit from IPD so everything is new. I guess I should make sure openings in engine block are clear. I'm also going to order a rebuilt turbo next week. I have a high pressure 57vin model, Would it make a differance if I upgraded to a turbo from the R model or are they the same turbo? Thanks

They are the same. VIN 57 or 58.

I know I'm new here but looking at how volvo has their PCV set up it has an "oem catch can" the oil separater. Wouldnt you be able to plug the hole in the intake boot and use hi-temp oil resistant hose from the crank case ports to a catch can mounted in the fender or in another location? That would keep the oil vapors out and help reduce oil going into the exhaust.

When I replaced the PCV in my 850 I had a little white smoke from the exhaust when cold and a little smoke from the dip stick for about 1,000 miles after I did the system replacement. Now it's clean.

Since I've been driven it after the pvc replacement the smoke has gone away. I'm taking it on a trip next weekend and I think that will clear things up. I still think the turbo is going bad though.
