New CV joint nuts too small?
Hello there. I purchased two new CV joints from the local autoparts store, and the nuts look way too small. The original nuts are 20 x 1.5mm threads, the hex of the nut was 36mm, and it had a built in washer. With the new CV joints, one came with a 20 x 1.5mm thread, and the other came with a 22 x 1.5mm thread, but the hexs are 30mm and 32mm respectively, and they don't have a built in washer... in fact, they don't come with any washers at all!!! Is this normal for the newer parts, or is this not right... I mean, the nuts look like they barely are holding on with just the hex part of the nut. By the way, these new nuts are self locking, and they don't have a tab to bend over into a key in the shaft. Any suggestions?
You can either reuse the old ones or return to the auto parts store and see if the have something else they can replace it with.
The 850 had 2 diffrent size nuts on the axles.

I could only use one of the old nuts since the nuts that I had had the same thread, and the new ones were two different threads. Now, the shafts do not have a keyway in it for the nut to be locked into, so I am going to use locktite on both sides, and on the one side, like I said, I am going to use the original 36mm hex nut, and on the other side I will use the new 32mm hex nut with a couple of belleville spring washers. This way the nut is not just locating on a very small portion of the outside of the nut onto the spline of the spindle.
