New guy With 1993 Volvo, few questions
I"m new here, I used to own a 1985 Mazda RX-7 until i got T-Boned by a 2001 Chevy Surburban 1500. and I have a few questions. So i've done some seaching, so i just wanna make certain of a few things.
I thought to myself, "What's extremely safe, Powerful, fast, yet get's awesome milage, and has all types of toys?... VOLVO!" so i just bought a 1993 Volvo GLT, Automatic, 159K Miles.
Question 1: When i'm driving around town my temperature Guage is about 3 o'clock, drifts down to 3:30 sometimes. But when i'm cruising down the freeway it drops all the way down to Cold. My guess is that the Thermostat is out. I just want comformation of that. Also any other thought to as might be the problem.
Question 2: I got the famous Blinking Arrow of Doom (the car IS NOT stuck in 3rd gear, shifts just fine), after some searching, i tried having the key in the on position and running the shifter between P and L a few times. It has worked. I'm just curious to know if it's a bad sensor/connector and if it's easily replaceable, or if i might have a more severe problem.
Again thanks for all your help, i know forums are an awesome place to get assistance, used them for my last car. I'm glad to be a part of this new family.
Thankyou,
-Matt

1. Yes I would say the thermostat is bad.
2. It might be the PNP switch follow link to learn how to pull codes. Then pull them and post them and I will lead you in the direction you need.

Transmission is A1

Thanks for the information, really helps. Hopefully it isn't raining tomorrow so i'll be able to get to the Diagnostic Unit to read the codes, and change the thermostat.
BTW, for the thermostat, my dad want's to go cheap and buy an aftermarket OEM style one from the local autoparts store - What temperature should i use? 180, 192, 195, or other?
Also i found that the following things don't work:
Cruise Control - I'm guessing that it's the vacuum line under the battery tray.
The heating element for the drivers seat.
I the drivers seat is electric also, everything works but the tilt, i hear the motor click and hum but nothing moves.
A/C - Atleast the dealer promised to get it fixed free of charge when i bought it, so his mechanic is going to look at it.
Also i have an oil leak - i'm going to have the mechanic check it out when i get my oil changed in the next few days.
for some screwy reason my key only opens the doors and starts the engine, won't fit in the trunk or the glove box (it is not the valet key) so the dealership is going to ger that fixed free of charge when they work on the A/C
Other than that, it's a fun vehicle to drive. Strong, stable, Solid. I'm happy with it, hopefully i don't run into too many troubles.
Thanks again!

The Seat might be a bad cable.
Check all the Vaccum line for the Cruise.
For the Key I will bet you it is a Valet key. They will look very much the same. The only difference is the way the grove is cut in the side of the key. One is squared and the other is angled.
