no compression
i went to start my car, it started and shut right off. cranks like the timing belt went. i pulled the cover and the timing marks are all on. it cranks like it has no compression or the belt let loose. double checked the marks and all 3 are where they should be. any ideas? thanks for the help. chuck
they both turn and does the crank. belt has tension on it. made a couple of turns and the marks still line up. i have been a ford mech for many years but i have never seen anything like this. plugs are dry ( no hydra lock ) just stoped after a couple of seconds now it sounds like its out of time. piston is tdc when the marks are lined up. thanks chuck
How long did you crank it for?
Once in a while the lifters will bleed down. The fix for that is to put the gas pedal to the floor and turn the key on and crank it for a while and see if it starts.
You have fuel and spark correct?

it has spark and fuel. it cranks like there is not a spark plug in it . i drove it a couple of days ago and it ran fine. went to pull it into my shop to check it over ( now that i am retired i sell used volvos ) and it started and ran for about 2 seconds and then nothing. sounded like it blew a belt so i puled the cover and checked the marks. i have instaled alot of timing belts on 5cyl volvos . this ones got me ???. need to do a compression test in the am . thanks again chuck
