Default A not so good rattling and clunking sound on my 850

Whenever I drive over cracks or bumps in the road I hear waht sounds like a mettalic rattling sound. I am used to the usual bumps and rattles but this sounds different. If I didn't know better I would say it sounds like my rotors or my calipers are rattling against each other. Anyways, I am not sure what to make of this issue but would appreciate any advice on how to figure out the nature of the problem.

Could be that the spring seats have gone bad. Appears to be common on these cars.

Yep. It's the spring seats. Replace both at once. Takes a couple of hour to do the first one, and an hour or so for the second. You will need spring compressors. Since you will be removing the struts, you may want to replace them at the same time.

Is it coming from the front or rear wheel(s) ?

Same problem I had few weeks ago rattling anoying noise on the front passenger side, I took it to the dealership. They replace some sring and strut, it cost me more than 300 bucks.

I have read some posts where clunking noises came from failing end links. Anybody know how to tell the difference between this noise and spring seats? I had my spring seats and end links changed when I got new struts so I'm afraid I can't weigh in on this one. Everyone here seems to be quite sure this is spring seats and I'm not doubting that at all. Just trying to understand if there's a difference. Thanks!

The easiest way to seperate the noise would be to test both items.
The springs seats try to turn the top strut nut. If it turns easy it is bad if it doesn't turn they are good.
For the swaybar links you will have to jack up the car and secure with Jackstands. Then try to pull/push the swaybar and feel for slop/listen for clicking from a loose end link.
