obd2 reset tool (can't find an affordable one)
I have read a ton of posts. I now know that with my obd2 850 turbo I will need the reset tool to reset the 5,000 mile service light. The car was bought with 80 thousand miles in September and has now hit its first 5,000 miles. I have just replaced the oil for the second time since owning it. (did it when I bought it even though it didn't need it, and just last week) however I don't want to spend 200 plus dollars on a reset tool or have to go to a shop every 5,000 miles and have them do it. What are my options here? Are there cheaper units out there? Where do I find them? Ebay has none that I could find. I guess I could live with it since there is nothing wrong with the car. It is just the service light. There is NO check engine light and the car is great. Light stays on for a few minutes than goes away.
What are my options? Anyone in the Oakland area have a reset light they could reset mine with? Are there cheaper units (under 100 bucks) out there?
Thanks all in advance.

You will need two dtc scanner/reset tools.
The first for reading and resetting standard ODB-II diagnostic trouble codes.
A friend recommended this one...
And the second for resetting Volvo-specific "Service Engine" and "Seat Restraint System" Light (seperate system from ODB-II)

Many folks have found a tool that resets both "Service" and "SRS" lights on e-Bay.

If you have a Palm Pilot I recommend this. It is great! It does everything that the SnapOn unit (minus ABS diagnostics) and costs $1200 less. I've had mine for years and it works great! I paid around $250 but I've made that money back in resetting MIL's for $10 a pop.

This is the one I have, someday I'll add the Dyno program

Service Light Reset Tool
Easy to use - just plug and play!
Today’s sophisticated computer controlled cars require equally sophisticated tools. On these high-tech vehicles you can no longer simply bridge a circuit or push a button to turn off the service light. Using the service light reset tools (SLRT) is the quickest and easiest way to get the job done.
With the SLRT, you can reset the service light computer on all 1996 through 1998 models. Simply plug the tool into the OBDII socket located in front of the gearshift lever and turn on the key. The software in the SLRT will transmit the necessary instruction to the vehicle’s computer and turn off the service light.
Note: 1993-95 and 1999-2003 models can be reset manually.
Note: This tool does not read trouble codes or reset check engine lamps.

$178 is a lot to just reset the service light. I just leave mine on. It only stay on for about two minutes, and I can live with that. I do have an ODB-II reader that I got from Auto Zone for around $70, and that does read and erase the CEL codes.

RE: obd2 reset tool (can't find an affordable one)
Thanks for all the great info. After sending the email I went out to the car and realized it is also an OBD1 car as well. So I followed the directions I found on this site to reset the light using the 1-5-1 code. Worked like a charm. I will get myself the autozone reader though just in case a code comes up in the future as I am sure it will eventually do.
Thanks again all,
Kyle
