my check engine light recently came on and i hooked up my scan tool to the obd2 port and it won't connect. i took it to advance auto parts and auto zone and they can't get it to connect it either, it just says link failed. any ideas of why this won't connect or what i can do without taking it to the dealer would be appreciated.

They usually don't have a problem with scanners.

Maybe try disconnecting the battery and resetting the computers.
BUT make sure you have your radio code first.

 

after disconnecting the battery.. it still wouldnt connect. but the check engine light is also no longer on. i'm assuming the check engine light has to be on for it to connect?

 

No it doesn't the code should still be there.
